Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Thursday, November 1 at 8:30 a.m.
We will move into our winter hours on Monday. We will be open from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. everyday. Closing at 5 p.m. on Sundays.
Waves at the pier this morning are running waist to stomach high, and promises to push a bigger set as the tide comes in later this morning.
Winds are south at 5 to 8 knots, and surf is pretty clean early this morning.
We expect south winds to increase dramatically this afternoon at 10 to 15 knots. Increasing 20 to 25 knots by late day as a cold-front approaches. Look for surf to get choppy as the day wears on.
We have a low tide this morning at 8:39. We see high tide at 3:05 p.m. The next low tide is at 9:28 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 3.3 ft. at 11 seconds in a long period easterly ground swell, with a wind wave height of 3.3 ft. at 5 seconds. So there is plenty of swell at the buoy this morning.
Look for continued long period easterly ground swell mixed with increasingly choppy south-west winds swell today, best late morning on the incoming tide. South-west winds increase on Friday, making for crossed up, choppy south-wind swell in the waist to chest high range with lots of drift up the beach. Saturday morning, we see waves clean up quickly and drop as winds go west Friday after midnight. Saturday morning sees strong north-west winds and cooler temperatures, but some cleaner leftover south wind-swell. We do expect some unsettled weather Sunday into Monday, and look for bumpy east swell and south trade wind swell for much of next week, so there are some wave to ride Sunday and into next week.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “High pressure will prevail through tonight. A cold front will approach the area late Thursday, then cross through the region by late Friday. High pressure is expected to return for the weekend, followed by unsettled weather early next week.”
It’s 64* and sunny this morning. Look for a high of 78* and thunderstorms this afternoon.
Water temperature is now 68*.
Sunset is at 6:30 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:35 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
