Tues. Sept. 12
Choppy, stormy, bumpy.
Good Morning. This is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 8:30 a.m.
We hope everyone survived the storm yesterday. Folly Beach is open today, and we are too.
Surf at the Washout this morning is chest to head high with overhead sets and it’s cloud-breaking on some sets.
It’s choppy, stormy surf, but it’s big. Not the best day if you don’t have some experience in the surf.
Tide is coming in, and high tide will be at 1:15 p.m. The next low tide will be at 7:40 p.m.
Edisto Buoy is reading 10.5 ft. at 9 seconds in medium period south-east swell. Plenty of swell at the buoy this morning.
We see big, but fading swell from Tropical Storm Irma today in the waist to chest high range with bigger sets this morning, fading some on the low tide later this evening. We have fresh ground swell showing late week as Hurricane Jose gets cranked up in our swell window later this week and begins to send in another strong ground swell. Hopefully Jose gets pushed to our north, but another hurricane swell is in the forecast late week into the weekend. We have waves in the forecast all week of some description, so go surf.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Tropical Depression Irma will move into the Tennessee Valley today while continuing to weaken. Weak high pressure will build into the area late this week into the weekend.”
It’s 71* with sun this morning. Look for sun today mixed with some passing clouds and a high of 81*.
Water temperature is around 76*.
Sunset is at 7:28 p.m. and sunrise will be at 7:01 a.m.
Thanks for checking in with Ocean Surf Shop.
