Good morning, this is Bates with your Ocean Surf Shop surf report and forecast for Wednesday, June 19 at 8:30 a.m.
Waves at The Washout are thigh-to-waist high with a stomach high set. It looks pretty fun on the incoming tide this morning.
Winds are west/sout-west at 5 to 10 knots, and surf is side-shore, but fairly clean.
Look for winds to increase later morning at 10 to 15, going south-west at 20 to 25 knots this afternoon. Surf will get dirfty and choppy as the day wears on.
We have a hightide this morning at 10:28 a.m., and a low tide will be at 3:54 p.m. The next high tide is at 10:28 p.m.
The Edisto buoy is reading 4 feet at 7 seconds in a combination of south wind swell and south-east south-east swell.
Some rideable surf in the water this morning, but we do expect choppier conditions with building short-period wind swell this afternoon in choppy, drifty conditions. We do expect building but choppy south-west wind waves to increase Thursday as a trough of low pressure builds inland, creating strong south-west winds and on/side-shore flow. This wind swell drops off but cleans up some for Friday. Swell fades out this weekend, so go surf mid-to-late week if you can.
Your NOAA Marine Weather Forecast for our marine area calls for: “Atlantic high pressure will give way to a low pressure trough today. A surface trough of low pressure is expected to develop inland by mid week, then persist over the Southeast through late week and likely into the weekend.
It’s 79* and mostly cloudy this morning. Look for a high of 86* with rain and thunderstorms moving in this afternoon.
Water temperature is around 82*.
Sunrise is at 6:11 a.m. and sunset will be at 8:30 p.m.
